The 8th FAI European Rally Flying Championship has ended. We hope all of You had a great time in Dunakeszi. The Organizers of the event wish all participants a safe journey back home. See you again sometime in the future!

The price-giving and closing ceremony begins at 1000LT. Shuttle bus from hotel departs at 0900LT. Gathering in front of the ceremony stage from 0945LT. All participants are welcome!

Mother Nature has been good to us in the last two weeks, we had great weather. All practice days and competition days where flyable. According to the forecast our time at the closing ceremony should be filled with sunshine too.

Preliminary results have been handed out to the teams. Teams have some time for complaints. Later, if they feel their inquiry has not been resolved, they may file an official protest.

Scoring is in process. The sports committee has to review 43 flights.

The planes arriving now one by one every three minutes. They have 10 minues to turn in their answer sheet to the sports committee for review and scoring.

The airfield is empty now. All of the aircrafts are flying the first task of the championship at the moment. The first arrival is expected at 10:42. Upon arrival teams will be escorted to the sport committee to hand in their envelope and are sequestered from the teams that have not departed yet.

The briefing is started. 15 minutes after 8 a.m. the first team will get the envelop with the task.

 

 

August 29th 22:50LT
The opening ceremony started with the military band music. The band lead the procession of the teams in front of the stage. After the speech of sponsors, the local and national civil and military leaders the Championship was opened with the welcome words of FAI representative. The next spectacular event of the evening was Tamas Nadas flying who is a European Champion of aerobatic. The ceremony closed with the dinner in the hangar. It is worth go to sleep early tonight because the race will start at 7.45 a.m. tomorrow.

 

 

August 29th 15:50LT
We are gearing up for the ceremony, the clubhouse is buzzing. Guests are arriving, city and state officials are on their way to greet us. The green bus has arrived, the military band is ready.

 

 

August 29th 12:40LT
Today is the last practice day, the teams may practice their flying and landing skills until 13:00. Indeed they are using every minute available. The opening ceremony tonight will start with an opening briefing at 16:00, followed by an opening ceremony starting at 17:00. Everyone is invited. After the ceremony, all team members are invited to welcome drinks, dinner and the openng party at the hangar.

The briefing hall projector and sound engineering had been tested. The weather has been kind to us today, CAVOK all day and we are especially happy with the temperatures coming down a bit. The teams have been practicing competition routes east and west. Food is great, drinks are cold. The mood is cheerfull. All around we look forward to the coming days filled with challenging and rewarding flights.

A great passtime for a weekend: rally flying practice in the morning, follewed by formula 1 racing on tv from 14:00, all capped by enjoying a refreshing beer or two from the tap. In the meanwhile bon appetite to everyone on your lunch break.

In the evening the cold front passed over us. It left us with 10 Celsius degree colder and crystal clear air. In the morning the speed of the wind decreased. It is hard to imagine more ideal weather conditions for rally flying.

Some pictures were uploaded to the galery about the planes, landings and the teams of course. The galery will be updated continuosly. It will be guaranteed by two professional photographers named Bodorics Tamas and Kolos Ferenc. It will be worth looking at the pictures from time to time.

At Saturday morning only the Litvanian team kept away. To ease the temperature the organizers used a brand new air conditioning system and an arriving cold front with high speed wind.

The hotest weather of the century welcomed the competitors arriving for the training week of the European Rally Championship. The 38 Celsius degree temperature wear out both humans and aircrafts. Still the pilots and navigators were determined to prepare and fly. The organizers and helpers worked very hard to get everything ready.
